I think winter is finally over! It’s been a rough couple weeks with those late
snow falls, but it’s all behind us now and we can relax with some summer knitting projects and watch the flowers grow!!
What’s New in the Neighborhood:
Five new color ways of
Universal Tapestry. For
those of you not familiar with this yarn, it’s a
worsted weight acrylic blend,
& machine washable.
As you knit with this yarn it will start to
resemble a fair-isle pattern. The new color blends are quite
nice. Universal
also added several new colors in their Self-striping
Long print which we also picked up. For those
of
you Afghan knitters, make sure you check out the afghan
pattern using assorted color ways of he long prints,
it’s a fun
colorful project.
Just in are the new Spring patterns by Noni. She has done
several nice new felted bags, but what I also found
to be refreshing is her new beaded styles, some are
felted and some just knit. The bags are very elegant and a new style for Noni.
I know many have you have looked at Berroco’s
new spring yarns, as they have been in the shop for a
while, but what
you haven’t seen is many of the new samples. Brenda finished her “Can Can” sweater using
Seduce, and it’ beautiful,
she also did a tote out of Linen Jeans that is a perfect
summer bag. Several
customers have also come in wearing
their finished projects, and all have been wonderful. We all have a little Diva in us, so I am sure you
will love the new Stitch
Diva Bag. This
bag can go in so many different
directions. Brenda
knit it up in Red Berroco Bonsai, and it is definitely a
Diva Bag. She also knit it up in Ella Rae Kasbah,
and it’s a stylish summer purse. There are so many different yarns you can use for
this project, and since it only uses
100gms, it’s easy on the pocket book, but big on
style. For
those of you who don’t want to tackle it on your own,
Brenda included the Diva Bag on the summer class
schedule.
If your looking for a FUN bag, than you will want
to check out the Loopy
Suessy felted bag.
Erica Owens of Kalamazoo Knits designed the bag, published the pattern, and is
teaching the class for us this summer. It’s
a great tote for just about anything, stop in the shop
to see the store sample, and have fun getting wild with
your color
choices. Also
a fun project not to miss out on is the yarn dyeing
workshop in August. Erica will be showing you how
to hand dye your own sock yarn! Class space is limited so sign up early.
Knitter’s Magazine and XRX books has kicked off
a Hot Socks Contest, and Neighborhood Knits is a “Hot
Spot” For
the Colinette
Jitterbug sock yarns and Mountain
Colors Barefoot. We have a nice selection of these 2
yarns in the shop, as they are 2 of the yarn sponsors
for this event. Details
of the contest are in the Spring issue of
Knitters Magazine (Which we have a supply of in the
shop). It’s
a year long contest, so there is no rush to get those Socks
done, and the prizes are very generous ($6,000 for first
place, that’s a nice incentive to come up with an
original. You can also stop in the shop for contest
details.
